This assignment asked students to pick an artist whose work they resonated with and create a work that incorporated their own history or interests with the style or concept of the artist.

This student was an engineering major who had been taking a robotics class. He gave the class a survey: choose a color, choose a direction, etc., then programmed his robot to drag a pattern in the prescribed manner, setting the parameters for the assignment, but giving up ultimate visual control. In the same way, Sol Lewitt would send museums a set of simple instructions and leave it to museum staff to carry out.
